Description
Friedrich Silcher's influential collection of foreign "Volkslieder" was first published in 4 booklets between 1835 and 1841 with arrangements for both guitar and piano. This is a later edition including only piano arrangements. I found it bound together with another collection dated as from 1869. So I assume this one must be from around the same time.
This songbook includes German versions Irish and Scottish but also Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Scandinavian and even Persian songs. Thomas Moore's "Last Rose of Summer" - translation by Hermann Kurtz - and Robert Burns' "My Heart's in The Highlands" - translation by Ferdinand Freiligrath - may be the most well known pieces in this collection.
