Slg: JK There were numerous songbooks for schools published in Germany during in the 19th century. These were often sloppily produced booklets that were sold at low prices so the schools and the pupils could afford them. Many of them were reprinted and republished in new editions regularly, sometimes for half a century or more.
These songbooks by Weeber & Krauss were first published in 1852 in altogether 5 booklets. Here are early reprints - the first three in the 3rd ed., No. 4 as a 2nd ed. and No. 5 as the 1st ed. - of all of them bound together in one volume. Composer J. Chr. Weeber (1808-1877) worked as a music teacher and composer in the town of Nürtingen while Friedrich Krauß (1816-1872) was a pastor. Their collection was apparently very popular and successful. It remained available for many years. As late as 1915 - long after the deaths of the original editors - a new revised edition was made available. Slg: JK
