Women in German Yearbook, Volume 15
About this Book
Women in German Yearbook is a refereed publicaiton presenting a wide range of feminist approaches to all aspects of German literary, cultural, and language studies, including pedagogy. Volume 15 offers feminist scholarship around three general foci: the American-Jewish author Jeanette Lander, who lives and writes in Berlin; feminist re-readings of canonical texts, such as Faustbuch and Hölderlin's Hyperion; and German film. The film cluster ranges from the debate on the "pernicious" effects of movies in the early 1900s to the star cult of the 1950s. It includes analyses of the various film adaptations of Vicki Baum's novel Grand Hotel; of the first lesbian feature film, Girls in Uniform; as well as of the TV docudrama Heimat and the recent documentary Exil Shanghai by feminist filmmaker Ulrike Ottinger.
