"Since its publication in 1995, The Hidden History of Massachusetts: A Guide for Black Folks has become an underground bestseller, guiding thousands of Blacks through the true history of their people in the Bay State. The information in this book represents that part of the historical record which has been purposely kept from the eyes of Black folks. It is therefore not available through the major white bookstores and most assuredly could never be found on any public school reading list. Indeed, white "educators" would sooner see hard drugs, guns, and violence pervade their classrooms than have this potent little dose of racial reality in the hands of their students. The Hidden History of Massachusetts has been sold almost exclusively by Black people from barber shops, beauty parlors, small businesses, street vendors, churches, and especially by the independent Black bookstores, which specialize in Black intellectual development."-- Preface.
