The Bird of Self-knowledge
About this Book
Twenty-five contemporary artists invade a space normally devoted to the display of Austrian folk art and contribute inventive and interventive works in response to it.
The painting The Bird of Self-Knowledge is the central motif for an exhibition of the same name. Twenty-five contemporary artists were invited to create a work in response to the place where it would be installed in a folk art museum. The result is a provocative dialogue between the current artists' positions and the anonymous cultural heritage already in place. The new works investigate traditional concepts of folk and contemporary art while developing new approaches to anonymous popular culture.
