For the movie, Barker hired a research staff to comb New York for potential characters. The search led them deep into the New York singles scene. They attended singles events, played the personals, and ran ads in the back pages of the New York Press. The result is a black comedy about vanity and desire set in the sexual jungle of the New York singles scene, and starring non-actors. It has been widely anticipated by critics. Barker has been called "a fly on the wall turned into a vulture", and has received glowing reviews for his work with the BBC. "Unmade Beds" is scheduled to release in theaters in early 1998.
