God, Science, and Society

God, Science, and Society

About this Book

"Astrophysicist Paul Davies wrote: "It may seem bizarre, but in my opinion science offers a surer path to God than religion ... science has actually advanced to the point where what were formerly religious questions can be seriously tackled." This is the springboard from which I answer atheistic arguments against God's existence with solid evidence from physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, sociology, philosophy, history, and theology to highlight the signposts to God and the many benefits of Christianity to society. Arguments from theology will not cut it in a debate with atheists, who insist that science is on their side. This being the case, the only theology an atheist may grant a hearing is natural theology. Natural theory offers indirect proof of God's existence and divine purpose through scientific observation of nature and the use of human reason. Scientific writings are highly technical, but I make every effort to explain their content in terms understandable to readers without scientific training, making no assumptions about prior knowledge. I have also written with the strong conviction that anyone espousing a position on any matter, be it scientific, political, or religious, should be able to stoutly defend it. Topics from the Big Bang, to the origin of life, to the mystery of intelligent consciousness are discussed. These things are discussed in many excellent books that engage science and religion, but they all seem to miss the things of most immediate concern to most people: How does Christianity affects societies, families, and individuals in terms of democracy, justice, happiness, physical and mental health, and prosperity? What has been the historical effects of societies that have officially abandoned God?"--
