About this Book

Midyat, Mezopotamya bölgesinin kadim şehirlerinden biridir. Farklı din ve dillere sahip insanlara ev sahipliği yapması, Midyat’ı bölgedeki önemli yerleşim yerlerinden biri haline getirmiştir. Midyat’ta yaşamış topluluklardan biri de Yezidilerdir. Yezidiler, yaşam biçimleri, inançları, örf ve adetleri bakımından bölgede dikkat çeken bir topluluk olmuştur. Yezidiler, bazı kültürel özellikleriyle bölgedeki diğer halklarla benzerlik gösterirken, bazı yönleriyle tamamen farklı özelliklere sahiptir. Bu çalışma, Midyat’ta yaşayan Yezidilerin yaşam biçimini, diğer halklarla ilişkilerini, zorunlu göç ve sonrasında yaşanan süreçleri alan çalışmasıyla anlamayı amaçlamaktadır.

Midyat is one of the ancient cities of the Mesopotamia region. Hosting people of different religions and languages makes Midyat one of the most important settlements in the region. One of the communities that lived in Midyat is the Yazidis. Yezidis have been a community that attracts attention in the region in terms of their way of life, beliefs, customs and traditions. While Yezidis are similar to other peoples in the region with some cultural characteristics, they have completely different characteristics in some aspects. This study aims to understand the way of life of the Yazidis living in Midyat, their relations with other peoples, forced migration and the processes experienced afterwards through fieldwork.
