Arctic Survival

United Kingdom Air Ministry PAM AIR 226, Arctic Survival 1953, plus Jungle Survival, UK Air Ministry PAM AIR 214, May 1957, originally classified Restricted. These are now public domain documents, compiling the lessons from the experience of survival in the Arctic, Norway, Burma, India and Africa during World War II and other conflicts. It was included in the survival kits accompanying aircraft used over jungle areas, to enable the crew to survive in the jungle environment.

The basic information is still relevant today, and is highly concise for the use of people actually dropped into jungle with the handbook, compared to more recent survival handbooks which are more comprehensive but generally a longer reading experience (more useful for preparations before a jungle adventure) like the U.S. Army Field Manual FM 21-76, Survival, or Raymond Mears' 1992 book, The Outdoor Survival Manual. These survival manuals are about four times longer, and need a couple of weeks to study.

To preserve this book, as for previous scans for Scribd and Internet Archive like Glasstone's Effects of Atomic Weapons and Effects of Nuclear Weapons, we have scanned selected an original document with out fading or discolouration, and scanned the pages individually with a black colour sheet of card placed behind the pages firmly in contact with that side, to prevent the black ink of print on the reverse sides of pages showing through when scanning. We have used 600 dpi resolution, and with contrast, brightness, and gamma corrections using ImageInColor software to bring them back to original print quality. (Our purpose is to preserve the information in as readable a way as is possible.)
