Description
Latin is an admirable language with a perfectly known grammar and immense vocabulary, largely incorporated and in everyday use in modern Neo-latin languages (90%) and English (65%). Authors who are concerned with facilitating and extending the knowledge and the practical use of the Latin language are unanimous in stating that an elementary knowledge of its morphology (lexicology) is the first step to begin to understand it and use it as an international modern auxiliary language . Latin grammar consists of the study of syntax and knowledge of the eight kinds of words: nouns, adjectives, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions and interjections. Some authors claim that it is not necessary to study Latin syntax because it is the same as that of well-known Neo-Latin languages. Among these, Portuguese is the language whose syntax is closest to Latin and the one that most supports inversions. In this practical Latin language course, translated from German and originally intended for seminarians, the self-taught students of modern Latin will find everything they need to know about Latin morphology. Declining nouns and pronouns and conjugating verbs are the fundamental parts of their study. Reading should start immediately using authentic Latin texts, in prose or in verse, accompanied by vernacular translations.
