Description

Professor Sheklakov, D.Sc. (Med.), Honoured Scientist
of the Russian Federation, is the author of
more than 250 scientific articles and 5 monographs
devoted to the problems of mycology and control
of fungal diseases. Many candidates and doctors
of medical science who work at research and therapeutic
institutions in this country were brought
up under his guidance. At present, the author is
Editor-in-Chief of the journal V e s t n i k d e r m a t o l o g t i
i v e n e r o l o g i i and works as a consultant to the
Moscow Mycological Centre. He also takes an
active part in public health education by writing
for periodicals and delivering lectures

This book acquaints the general reader
with the spread of fungal diseases, features
of their clinical course and prevention.
Descriptions of fungi and mycoses caused
by them are rarely found in the popular
literature, whereas many books and brochures
are devoted to bacterial and viral
infections. The author decided, therefore,
to try to fill this gap.
The author’s aim is to inform the reader
about the properties of fungi, the main characteristics
of the clinical course, epidemiology,
and prevention of the most widespread
dermatophytoses and other types
of mycoses affecting the skin and mucosa.
This book is mainly devoted to these
aspects of medical mycology.
