ABSTRACT: This article has the objective to focus the incestuous relations portrayed
in the theater play Álbum de família, by Nelson Rodrigues, approaching the discussion
about the elements of the mythology and the Greek tragedy, more specifically Édipo
Rei, by Sófocles, whose intertextuality is present in different parts of the Nelson
Rodrigues’s texts. The boldness of Nelson Rodrigues to approach so controversial
themes on mid 20 century, with a sophisticated language, including with classic content,
will be discussed. Other Nelson Rodrigues’ works, either in prose or in dramaturgy, will
also be cited, briefly highlighting some adaptations for the cinema.
