Pramoda Avidhana by Pramod Chandra Deb - Oriya Dictionary [1942].pdf Pramoda Avidhana, compiled by Pramod Chandra Deb (1903 - 1975) was a post-Bhashakosha Oriya dictionary which tried to maintain the extensiveness of word coverage found in the Bhashakosha while condensing the explanations to limit its size for easy usability. The resulting dictionary spanned about 3000 pages and contained some 1,50,000 words. The compiler, Diwan Bahadur Pramod Chandra Deb, was born into the Talcher royal family and being the younger brother inherited the family title Pattayat. After early education in the formal schools, he joined the state administration and continued his literary pursuits on his own. He was probably influenced in this by his inlaws' family - the royal family of Bamanda, renowned for their literary activities. Pramod Deb started the compilation of the dictionary in 1936 by assembling a team of Pandits led by Sri Damodar Mishra who became his main assistant. He collected and analysed the then current dictionaries in English and in other Indian languages and gave direction to the team with active participation. The work was completed and publishe in 1942 and although still useful being the second most comprehensive lexicon after the Purnachandra Odia Bhashakosha. But copies of it are hard to find as it has never been reprinted after 1942. The present electronic version seeks to remedy this situation. Digitalized by Srujanika.org.
