Description

The Harlequin Quadrilles, the melodies performed at the Theatre Royal Covent Garden, in the pantomime of Puss in Boots or the Millers Son, composed and arranged for the piano forte, by G.F. Stansbury

This publication was reviewed in The Ladies' Penny Gazette in 1833. They wrote: "We can recommend these quadrilles to our young friends as being much better adapted for this purpose than the barbarous mutilations from various operas that are so frequently dished up for them. The melodies, which are both light and sparkling, are selected from the pantomime of Puss in Boots, and fitted to the figures of the original set, which will receive a new gusto by the adaptation. Each quadrille is named after a principal pantomime character. The title-page is ornamented with a capital sketch of the clever little Miss Poole; and there is also a respectable portrait of the Cat, with its legs ensconsed in a pair of fairy boots, ingeniously shaped for their reception - a ne plus ultra in the art of boot making.".
