O latim é um idioma admirável com gramática perfeitamente conhecida e imenso vocabulário, em grande parte incorporado e em uso cotidiano  nos idiomas modernos  neolatinos ( 90%) e no inglês ( 65%).  Autores que se ocuparam em facilitar e extender o conhecimento e o uso prático da língua latina são unânimes em afirmar que um conhecimento elementar da  sua morfologia (lexicologia) é o primeiro passo para começar a entendê-lo e utilizá-lo como língua auxiliar moderna internacional. A gramática latina consiste no   estudo da sintaxe e no conhecimento das oito espécies de palavras: substantivos, adjetivos, pronomes, verbos, advérbios, conjunções, preposições e interjeições. Alguns autores afirmam  que não é necessário estudar a sintaxe do latim porque é a mesma dos conhecidos idiomas neo-latinos. Entre estes, o português é o idioma cuja sintaxe mais se aproxima da  latina e o que mais suporta inversões. Neste curso prático de língua latina , traduzido do alemão e destinado originalmente a seminaristas, os estudantes autodidatas do latim moderno encontrarão tudo o que necessitam saber da morfologia latina. Declinar e conjugar é a parte fundamental de seu estudo. A leitura deve iniciar-se imediatamnte utilizando-se textos latinos autênticos, em prosa ou em versos,  acompanhados de traduções vernáculas.
